The concerns regarding unevitable brain damage during a professional boxing or football career lead to other sports investigating similar risks. I've recently heard of an ongoing study focusing on impact injuries in water polo. Should underwater rugby players be alarmed as well? Im my opinion, not. UWR might be faster and more of a contact sport than polo, but water is also our protective gear at the same time. The real risk is the ball flying with high speed in water polo which is not at all present in rugby.

Although there is a cap provided with extra protection to reduce the risk of high speed tackels in UWR and incoming pucks in UWH. Maybe polo players should consider wearing it too.
